Esmey Herscovitch is from Australia, and was educated by the Sisters of St. Joseph of the Sacred Heart, the Faithful Companions of Jesus, and the sisters of the Society of the Sacred Heart.  She entered the Society of the Sacred Heart in 1963. With an academic background in school librarianship, she ministered in schools, mainly in librarianship. She also spent some years in ministry with senior sisters, and did volunteer work with refugees before beginning her 17 years of work at Redfern with Indigenous people.

Our 'open house' ministry with Indigenous people of Australia

I have learned many things during these years, but one is very important: to understand that I do not understand, or to know that I do not know, and this applies to all people, but especially to our Indigenous people.
