- Lenca leader Berta Caceres, who had spent years fighting against a project to build the Agua Zarca Dam along the Gualcarque River, as quoted by Dominican Sr. Doris Regan who attended her funeral [1]along with thousands of people March 5. Caceres was murdered at her home March 3. Nine days later, another activist, Nelson GarcĂa, was killed [2].
