Rita Lourenço Luis is a Good Shepherd Sister from Angola, Africa. Her family was tragically impacted by the civil war, and after she finished high school she did social work, empowering women and girls in Luanda. After serving as provincial leader, she was elected to the Central Leadership team of the congregation.

After obtaining a master's degree in Dublin she returned to Angola as director of mission development, overseeing all the ministries of the province. At the time of this writing, she is stranded in Rome by the pandemic, but continues to perform her work in the congregation’s province of Angola and Mozambique (the two Portuguese-speaking countries in Africa).

Helping others survive poverty in Angola

I suffered great loss during Angola's civil war. But amid the war, women religious stepped forward to care for the suffering. Out of these experiences my own passion grew, particularly to help women and girls.
