Peter Feuerherd, former NCR news editor, is a veteran of the Catholic and religious press, having written for Commonweal, St. Anthony Messenger, and diocesan newspapers in Indianapolis, Cincinnati, Detroit, Albany, Long Island and New York City. He is the winner of numerous Catholic Press Association and religious press awards and is the author of "Holy Land USA: A Catholic Ride Through America's Evangelical Landscape" (Crossroad). Feuerherd writes from Queens, New York, where he is also an adjunct professor of journalism at St. John's University. He is a regular on the basketball courts of the borough.

Sr. Wendy Beckett, art critic and TV star, dies at 88

Sr. Wendy Beckett, the contemplative who became an unlikely television celebrity after hosting art programs on BBC and American public television throughout the 1990s, died Dec. 26 at a care facility near the Carmelite monastery where she lived in a trailer hermitage. She was 88.

Sisters honored at corporate responsibility forum

Recent Interfaith Center on Corporate Responsibility actions include shareholder resolutions that pressured Smith and Wesson to find ways to improve gun safety. Adrian Dominican Sr. Judy Byron, a leader in that movement, was honored by the group along with Mercy Sr. Susan Vickers, vice president of corporate responsibility for Dignity Health, the Mercy Sisters' health care system.
