Margaret (Margie) Buttitta is a member of the Sisters of St. Louis from the Los Angeles area. After teaching grade school in California, she was one of three sisters to found the community presence in Brazil, where she taught and worked in pastoral ministry. Later, caring for her aged mother, she founded Los Angeles Ministry Program (LAMP), which educates high-risk women and children. Returning to Brazil, she accompanied small Catholic Basic Communities, women's groups and those in family housing. After 38 years of missionary service in Brazil, Sister Margie returned to California where she is archivist, does volunteer teaching and lives in community with several elderly sisters.
