Sr. Jean Marie Fernandez is an Indian who was born in Malaysia, raised in Singapore and currently lives as a missionary in San Francisco. She has been a member of the Sisters of the Good Shepherd for 27 years and is serving on the provincial leadership team in the Province of Mid-North America. She also serves on the council of women religious in the San Francisco Archdiocese and is a member of the National Religious Vocation Conference; she accompanies young women in discernment as the vocation director for her province. Currently she works part-time as a counselor and case manager in St. Vincent De Paul Society, a multi-service center for the homeless in San Francisco.

The heart of love, a shepherd
I have been curious about and intrigued by the story of the 12 boys and their soccer coach who were trapped in the Tham Luang Cave complex in Northern Thailand. As I reflected on this story, I was deeply moved by this profound experience of the boys and their coach and, in particular, the symbolism of the cave.
