James Dearie joined NCR as a Bertelsen editorial intern in September 2017 after his graduation from the University of Notre Dame. He was born in Alabama and grew up in the Midwest and eastern United States, most recently in Cincinnati, Ohio. Sr. Maureen Paul Turlish, longtime advocate for sex abuse victims, dies at age 79
Sr. Maureen Turlish was a founding member of the National Survivor Advocates Coalition and Catholic Whistleblowers and was also active in the Philadelphia chapter of Voice of the Faithful. She was also a contributor to National Catholic Reporter.
Souljourners program prepares spiritual directors to guide others during journeys
The Souljourners program, a ministry of the Benedictine Sisters at Mount St. Scholastica, is a three-year program for spiritual directors. Ecumenism is key to the program. The experts who instruct students come from all Christian faith backgrounds. The sisters describe the form of direction they teach as "contemplative-evocative."

A native of Chad, St. Joseph Sr. Jeannette Londadjim was forced to flee her homeland with her family because of the bloody civil war that broke out in the mid-1960s. Her work has taken her throughout Africa, educating young people, working with migrants and refugees, and helping bishops' conferences deal with issues of development, the environment and racism.
