Ceil Lavan is a Dominican Sister of Blauvelt, New York. With an academic background in education, religious studies and ministry, she has been the congregational coordinator of social and environmental justice for many years. She works with the Blauvelt Justice Committee, the joint justice committee of the Dominican Sisters of Amityville, Blauvelt, Caldwell, Hope, Maryknoll and Sparkill, and with the North American Dominican Promoters of Justice, Peace and Care of Creation. Her work with organizations like Westchester Peoples Action Coalition, or WESPAC, and Food and Water Watch has enriched her activism and community organizing work. An adjunct professor in the Masters in Public Administration Program of Metropolitan College of New York, she teaches administrative ethics in the Bronx.
